What does it mean when my check engine light comes on?
It means your vehicle's computer has picked up something out of range — a sensor reading, a misfire, a leak, or another issue. The light itself doesn't tell you exactly what's wrong. We hook up our scan tools, pull the codes, and then test to find the actual cause instead of guessing.
Is it safe to drive with the check engine light on?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. A solid light often means you can drive a short distance, but you should get it checked soon. A flashing light usually means a more serious problem that can damage the engine or catalytic converter if you keep driving. If you're not sure, give us a call and we can advise you.
Do you charge for a diagnostic?
We do charge for proper diagnostics because it takes time, experience, and professional equipment to do it right. Exact pricing can change, so the best way is to call us for current rates. In most cases, if you go ahead with the repair, we work the diagnostic cost into the job so you aren't paying twice.
Can't I just get the codes read for free at a parts store?
A free code read will tell you where to start looking, but it won't tell you what's actually failed. Replacing parts based on a code alone is guessing, and that gets expensive fast. We use the codes as a starting point, then test and verify so you only pay to fix the real problem.
What happens after you diagnose the problem?
